Telecom Companies Positioning with Firms that Connect India

In a recent Bank of America Securities (BoAS) report, India’s largest telecom companies, Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, are positioning themselves more than just firms that  are responsible for connect India online. This came at a time when the online gaming industry is experiencing an unprecedented boom due to the COVID-19 epidemic.

The BoAS paper reported on 6 July that global weekly mobile game download was at a high of 1.2 billion in April 2020, as the worldwide trend of people receiving online entertainment due to the coronovirus lockdown.

In India, the popular Ludo King game was seen with a 142% jump in downloads between February and April, with Nazara seeing a 20% increase in time spent on its network, a 200% increase in PayTM First Games user base Seen and a five-time increase in in-app purchases.

The report also notes that India’s conversion to mobile gaming has been slower than other Asian economies such as China and South Korea. But with improvements in telecom infrastructure, a huge gaming eco-system, and a huge millennium / gen z user base, it is expected to grow rapidly.
