Sale of Lottery Likely to Resume on May 18th in Kerala
Kerala Finance Minister Thomas Issac has announced that the sale of lotteries by the state government will resume on 18 May 2020. India has been under a lockdown since late March to stop the spread of coronaviruses. The third phase of the lockdown ends on May 17. The sale of lottery tickets had to be discontinued during the lockdown to prevent the lottery sector crisis which is why the government is increasingly working to resume selling lottery tickets to agents on 18 May.
The first draw for the state lottery will be held on June 1. Eight lottery draws were postponed by the Lottery Directorate in Kerala due to the lockdown. Many lottery agents were unemployed during the lockdown. The state government plans to resume sales of lottery tickets to help lottery vendors and support the health sector with revenue earned from lotteries.
The minister also said that the actual resumption of sales would depend on the prevailing situation in the country on those dates.
