In his introductory remarks, citing the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak, Adhikari stated that in the present case, the market is opening up opportunities for the entertainment industry, and in India, gaming is a major part of the entertainment industry.
Singhania said that fantasy sports are being recognized as skill games by the Supreme Court, which will lead to rapid market growth.
Landers explained how the gaming market has a huge potential in the world and in India, he mentioned Mukesh Ambani’s comment about how gaming would be bigger than movies, music, and television. Landers said the gross gaming revenue of real-time gaming is about half a billion dollars, with contributions from daily fantasy sports (DFS), rummy, poker, and others. Online card games, digital skill games, and digital e-sports will see an increase in view of the possibility of cancellation of live matches.
The Pre-SPICE India 2020 webinar was organized due to the postponement of the SPECE India 2020 event, which was to be held on March 25-27, 2020 at the Goa Marriott Resort & Spa. The program was postponed due to travel restrictions imposed on foreign nationals by the Indian government amidst the COVID-19 outbreak. New dates of the event are yet to be announced.
